Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were 7.3 million mt in July 2012, according to the USGS. This was about 7.0 percent higher compared with shipments for July 2011. Shipments for the year through July were 44.4 million mt, up about 14 percent for the same period in 2011.
Clinker production totaled 6.3 million mt in July 2012, nearly 11 percent higher than the output in July 2011. Production for the year through July was 38 million mt, up 11 percent. Masonry cement shipments of about 173,000 mt for July were up almost 7.0 percent compared with shipments in July 2011. Shipments for the year through July were 1.12 million mt, up almost 6.0 percent.
July 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 816,000 mt were 33.0 percent higher than July 2011. Imports for the year through July were 3.93 million mt, up almost 13 percent.
